A workplace emergency is an unforeseen situation that threatens your employees, customers, or the public; disrupts or shuts down your operations; or causes physical or environmental damage. Natural emergencies may include the following:

  • Floods
  • Hurricanes
  • Tornadoes
  • Fires

SERVPRO of Annapolis/Severna Park recommends your company emergency plan contain the following:

Stay in business. Recently, COVID-19 forced businesses to quickly shift from office-work environment to work-from-home. Was your business prepared? Were you able to continue operations? One thing that may help you plan for this type of environment is setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN). This technology allows employees to access the company network from home.

Emergency communications. How will you communicate important information to your employees? Consider setting up a telephone calling tree, a password-protected page on the company website, an email alert or a call-in voice recording to communicate with employees in an emergency.

Evacuation Plan. If there is a fire in your building, what is the evacuation plan? Create a site map and determine several evacuation routes based on office locations. Set up an off-site safe meeting location where employees can gather.

During September (National Preparedness Month), we urge you to train and educate internal personnel on your emergency response plan.
